Naturally Occurring Retirement Community
A Naturally occurring retirement community (NORC), is a diverse community which is not designed originally for seniors, but, may have a large number of senior residents, that is sixty years of age or older. Communities such as these are not organized or built to meet the day to day needs of seniors residents. Elderly residents are able to continue life as a normal senior. It is suggested, that NORC's existence may be formed in three possible ways, such as, a large number of persons moved into a community when they younger and aged in place, a large number of older people move into a community, or older people remain in a community as younger residents move out. There are said to be thousands of NORC's located throughout the U.S, and the number is expected to grow.
An apartment building, neighborhood or different areas in the same community can be considered a NORC.
NORC program services may include case management, health care management, transportation, legal advice, mental health, social services, or housing
