The Life Of Mrs. Maxwell...Brief View
Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, while being a resident of Detroit, Michigan since 1990. This coming June 2015 my husband and I will be celebrating 24 years of being married. Our only child, Joslyn Maxwell will be turning 20 years old on May 25, 2015 and our little Jasper will be turning 10 years old this coming November 2015.
This past Winter 2015 I graduated earning my Masters in Community Agency Counseling. Directly after completing my undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts & Science I was admitted into the Masters of Instructional Technology Program. I completed 20 of 37 credits before transferring over to the Masters in Community Agency Counseling Program. Although it took me a lot longer than I anticipated to complete the Counseling program, I'm really happy with the decision I made to switch programs.
Social Work Experience
Although my background experience is in the counseling profession, I am very excited and interested in becoming educated and experienced in the field of Social Work, focusing on aging population. By adding the certificate of Gerontology to my credentials it will not only enhance my career opportunities and options, it will also give me the opportunity to assist my clients better.
Working with the aging population, focusing on areas such as, psychological aspects of aging, biological and physiological aspects of aging, and communicating with older persons I believe is important and requires attention in todays growing technology society.
The School of Social Work's MISSION can serve as a guide to help me become more informed and educated on the aging population in urban settings. In working with aging clients I have become aware that there is a lot of information relating to online social services and the aging population that I am not aware of. It is almost impossible to live in todays society and not have some level of technology skills or experience. Becoming more knowledgeable on certain processes, procedures, barriers, and research on aging in todays society will help make me more equipped to help my clients in the future. The five things I would like to get from this class is to become more informed in the study of gerontology, how to assist the aging population to develop their skills in human development, gain helpful resources which will be helpful for the aging population, becoming more informed about the social services and meeting and communicating with students that share the same interest that I do.
